Carte Goodwin, a Charleston lawyer, has chosen by West Virginia Governer Joe Manchin to temporarily fill the U.S. Senate Seat vacated by the death of Democratic Senator Robert C.Byrd. Goodwin’s appointment announced by Manchin on Friday during a news conference at the West Virginia Capitol.
Goodwin served as Manchin’s general counsel from 2005 to 2009. Later he moved to his family law firm, Goodwin & Goodwin LLP in Charleston.
Harry Reid, a Senate Majority Leader, said yesterday that Manchin’s appointment will be shown on July 20th. Later on the Senate plans to take another vote on whether to restore unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless which was fell short for one vote.
